Reichmann University Radio: Fentay Elmo on diplomatic communication

In episode 50 of “Not just PR”, Fentay Elmo, First Secretary, Spokesperson and Director of Public Diplomacy at the Israeli Embassy in The Hague, in a conversation about communication and public diplomacy.

Fentay shared the career change she made with the moment she decided to join the Foreign Ministry’s political cadet course, a change that placed her together with her family in a variety of fascinating diplomatic roles around the world; As the deputy ambassador in Chile, the deputy ambassador in Ethiopia, Burundi and the African Union.
She currently serves as first secretary and spokesperson and director of public diplomacy at the Israeli Embassy in The Hague. In the conversation, she shared the challenges and complexities that come her way as an Israeli diplomat and how she deals with them.
We discussed her role as the embassy spokesperson and what it means to manage the public diplomacy of the Israeli embassy in The Hague.

Fentay, who immigrated from Ethiopia to Israel at the age of two, shared that the motto that has accompanied her since forever is: not to be in a “comfortable” place for too long and to develop a “hunger” for fulfillment and self-realization. And it is not suitable for a special episode in honor of International Women’s Day.
